At Black Magic Grooming, we believe grooming should be about more than just looking good — it should be an experience where pets feel safe, respected, and genuinely cared for.
Black Magic Grooming was founded in 2022 by Alex, a veterinary technician in training who also works in a veterinary clinic during the week. Through her work in the veterinary field, Alex saw firsthand how stressful grooming could be for some pets. She regularly encountered animals dealing with painful mats, overgrown nails, and anxiety from difficult or stressful grooming experiences. It inspired her to create something different — a grooming environment built around patience, kindness, and low-stress care.
Alex is proudly Fear Free Certified, and this philosophy is at the heart of everything we do. Our goal is to minimize fear, anxiety, and stress while helping each pet feel as comfortable and confident as possible throughout their visit. We take the time to work at each pet’s pace, because we believe that a positive grooming experience can make all the difference.
What started as a small weekend grooming studio on Salt Spring Island has grown into a space where pets can receive one-on-one, personalized care in a calm and compassionate environment.
Alex is joined by her sister Debbie, who helps with grooming sessions and brings the same warmth, patience, and love for animals to every appointment. Together, they strive to create an experience that both pets and their people can feel good about.
For us, the best part isn't simply seeing a beautifully groomed pet walk out the door — it's seeing a pet who came in nervous or unsure leave feeling comfortable, cared for, and proud of themselves. 🖤
